INDIE-POP SINGER/SONGWRITER CODY LAWLESS RELEASES NEW ALBUM, HEAVEN HAS A SPECIAL PLACE FOR YOU

(April 25, 2025) – Canadian indie/pop singer-songwriter Cody Lawless releases his new album, Heaven Has a Special Place For You, today.
Inspired by artists like Felly and Pinegrove, as well as modern heavy alternative bands, Heaven Has a Special Place for You focuses on past relationships (romantic and otherwise) and takes the listener on a journey from heartbreak to self-understanding. “It’s about people who’ve stuck with me their whole life,” says Cody Lawless, explaining the title of his new album. “It’s about that affirmation.”Amusingly, Lawless himself calls the record a “melancholy indie-alternative record but with a ‘Hey Ya’ Outkast vibe.’”
“There’s a lot of heartbreak to these songs,” Lawless admits. “But overall, I think it’s saying you need the shit parts of life to experience the beautiful parts. I’ve never written an album like this before. It’s a ‘life’s gonna be OK’ album and you can hear me reach that idea as the record goes on.”
Cody also releases a video for the track “Happy Feet,” ft. Los Angeles-based artist Buppy. About the track, Cody says, “I worked on this and a lot of the tracks with producer Chris Wong. It’s about the same girl that my last single ‘Train to Alaska’ is about. It’s about the time past that moment when you realize life is beautiful and about more than just a person.”
Cody most recently released the singles “Train To Alaska,” “She Thinks,” and “Willy Wishbone,” featuring fellow Vancouver artist Elijah Blond.
Previously working under the moniker KNOWN. and releasing his debut rap project Paradise Park at the age of 20, Mission, BC-based songwriter Cody James Henn needed an artistic change. And that change — a result of discovering this “authentic self” and with the admitted help of psychedelics — has resulted in a brilliant transformation. Enter Cody Lawless.
2023’s Sunshine State of a Happy Camper hinted at Cody’s easy-going pop vibes. After the release of that album, Cody toured across Europe, the UK, and North America supporting frequent collaborator Powfu.
